Description

The LMBV requires the updating of data on the natural environment in the post-mining landscapes of Central Germany and Lusatia. The knowledge gained from this is to flow into the further sustainable mining rehabilitation. A first study, covering remediation projects and evaluating both lignite remediation areas, was carried out with the publication ‘Species and habitats of the post-mining landscapes – Opportunities of lignite remediation for nature conservation in eastern Germany’ in 2017. It was the result of a 2014 project. The findings are taken into account in the recultivation and in the planning and implementation of compensatory and replacement measures as well as compensation measures. They are incorporated into the area protection of the LMBV's own compensation cadastre as well as into the protection of ecopoints.
