Description

The districts of Gerland and Saulaie are both very close as the crow flies, but also very distant because separated by the Rhône, whose two banks have historically been developed completely independently. Only the metro has been connecting them since 2013. The river thus appears to users as a barrier of about 5 km. This break is particularly harmful for pedestrians and bicycles for whom direct and short routes are a real destination criterion. The Gerland-La Saulaie bridge project thus carries the ambition of connecting and sewing between two urban entities in full development. The aim is to connect the two districts on the surface for pedestrians and bicycles, to open a new major continuity of public space contributing to the transparency of the river and the road infrastructure, while magnifying the major landscape qualities of the site at all scales. This new crossing of the Rhône is also essential to the cycling development plan of the sector since it will carry the future Voie Lyonnaise n°9
