Description

The task of the planning competition is the redesign of the inner-city open spaces Zschochernplatz and Zschochernstraße, called Zschochern for short by the people of Gera. The competition area has a total size of about 6,000 m2. The west-facing Zschochernplatz is located in the monument ensemble Nördliche Innenstadt and directly adjoins the main shopping street Sorge. The open space to be designed is flanked by residential development, partly with retail facilities. It is characterized by car traffic as well as strong sealing, but also by trees. From the point of view of multiple use of the open space, climate adaptation, accessibility, inclusion and sustainability, both local residents, pedestrians and cyclists must be rethinked, taking into account the existing infrastructure. In terms of function and design, space and street should be considered holistically - taking into account the respective specifics - and the free space should be helped to a high quality of stay. A revival of the urban space is the most important goal for residents and guests, supported by trade, art and culture, also in the overall urban context.
