D-Hamburg: Facing brickwork
The former cattle market hall of the Hamburg slaughterhouse is located on the north-western edge of the Heiligengeistfeld in the St Pauli district of Hamburg. The 12.5 m high building, rounded to two sides, covers an area of 14 450 m m at a depth of 110 m with a swived front of 155 m and the 100 m rear face. The steel roofing structure with red brick masonry, supported only by four large steel posts, is an essential element of the building’s monuments. The hall is now to be modernised and refurbished for a new retail use, following an interim interruption in use and the dismantling of the partly damaged installations. An essential part of this new concept of use is the division of the hall into several rental areas managed by a general tenant. The main subject of this procurement project is the extension of the carcass work required for the basic repair and conversion of the façades and main staircases, as well as the rehabilitation of the masonry and concrete components of the roof structure and the peripheral houses.
