Main and architectural design of the railway station, Preliminary invitation to tender
The air line is a new double-track passenger rail line that connects Helsinki Airport directly to long-distance rail traffic. The track mainly runs in a tunnel and significantly reduces travel time to the airport both from the Helsinki city centre and from national connections. The total length of the track is about 25 km, of which 24 km is located in a tunnel. The project extends to the areas of Helsinki, Vantaa, Tuusula and Kerava. The airport is the only new station in the project. It is located underground next to the Ring Rail Line station in the airport area. The station platforms are 450 metres long, and the station utilises the passenger and maintenance routes of the Ring Rail Line. The estimated annual number of passengers at the station is approximately 13 million. It serves both air passengers and airport employees and serves as a switching station between commuter and long-distance trains.
