NO-Oslo: tutorial services
Selection tests shall be developed in social studies in accordance with the teaching plan targets in the 10th year. The time perspective is start-up spring 2012.
The Norwegian Directorate of Education and Training was asked by the Ministry of Education and Research in a letter dated 29/10 to develop a rolling system for selection tests in social studies.
The selection tests in social studies shall be developed for the 10th year, based on the competence targets in the teaching plan in social studies in the 10th year (history, geography and social studies). The test shall, according to the plan, be carried out for the first time in 2012, so that the tests and guidance material is available for schools in the school year 2012-13.
The tests shall first be carried out on a nationally representative selection of pupils in order to establish national levels/standards which local levels can be evaluated against. Then guidance material shall be developed based on the evaluated pupil replies from the selection which together with the tests shall be made available for use by all schools. When the guidance material is available, the tests shall be able to be held when schools or teachers want to hold them.
The idea is that a new test shall be developed each year which will measure various competences within the subject. This shall, in time, give a "test bank" with tests which cover several sides of the subjects and which will be made available for the schools.
