Description

Invest for Jobs, implemented by GIZ, among others is part of the Special Initiative on Decent Employment for a Just Transition, with the primary objective of creating quality jobs and implementing training programs to foster sustainable employment opportunities for youth and women. Aimed at creating decent jobs for vulnerable populations in Côte d'Ivoire, Invest for Jobs aims to help alleviate barriers to investment in the country. One of the commonly identified factors hindering potential investors' development is the lack of qualified human resources in specific trades and sectors of the private sector, such as plastics manufacturing. This issue has been highlighted by many companies, such as SAFPLAST. SAFPLAST stands out as a cornerstone of the plastics industry in Côte d'Ivoire, promoting innovation and progress. Recently, the company has expanded its activities with significant investments in recycling unused plastic, thereby pioneering the circular economy. Despite its ambitions, SAFPLAST acknowledges the shared challenges among its peers regarding the scarcity of qualified talent. This reality jeopardizes not only its operational efficiency but also its future growth. The pursuit of high-level talent has become a priority for SAFPLAST and the sector, emphasizing the critical importance of technical expertise and appropriate behavioral skills. To address this need, Invest for Jobs is committed to training and placing skilled young individuals in the market, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the plastics industry in Côte d'Ivoire. The main aim of this initiative will be to provide comprehensive training, and subsequently integrate young men and women into quality jobs within the plastics industry. This will be achieved through a program covering six key areas: extrusion, welding, printing, cleaning, recycling and quality production. The aim of this initiative titled "Centre de Formation Plasturgie" is to train 200 people and place 180 of the beneficiaries in decent jobs in these fields. In collaboration with SAFPLAST, a company known for its strong environmental awareness and commitment to greening its services through recycling, state-of-the-art facilities will be made available for practical training Thanks to the facilities that will be provided by SAFPLAST, beneficiaries will receive theoretical and technical training simultaneously, enabling them to assimilate the information as effectively and quickly as possible. This integration will also enable them to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom directly in the field at SAFPLAST's facilities, guaranteeing practical application of the skills being taught. To further contribute to its environmentally friendly focus, training modules on recycling and waste reduction will be developed and included alongside the training modules on the six key areas mentioned earlier. Moreover, it is important to note that beyond initiatives prioritizing the empowerment of women and youth and ensuring their meaningful participation in the workforce, sessions on health and safety awareness (SST) will be incorporated into the training program. These sessions aim to inform participants of their rights and improve their well-being in the workplace, thus making this a truly complete and inclusive training program.Ultimately, the project aims to achieve a 90% insertion rate of the 200 young men and women into jobs of decent quality within the six key areas they've received training in.
