Description

Among the purposes or functions assumed, in its Statute of Autonomy, the Community of Castilla y León is prevention and extinction of forest fires. That is why the safety of the personnel working on the extinction of the same is a matter of concern and a requirement of mandatory compliance by this Administration, in accordance with Law 31/1995, of November 8, on the prevention of Occupational Risks. There are multiple risks to which the personnel involved in the prevention and extinction of forest fires are subjected: thermal, abrasion and friction, presence of fumes and flue gases, low visibility, impacts, etc. Given the impossibility of applying technical or organizational measures that eliminate these risks at their origin, the use of personal protective equipment is required. Proper choice, use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are vital to achieve the proposed objectives of reducing the levels of risk in the workplace, as required by safety and health regulations. This requirement implies a periodic renewal of the same, as well as the delivery of new material to the new incorporations in terms of personnel. In addition, the complementary material for firefighting personnel is also of concern to this Administration, which seeks to ensure that professionals involved in forest fires have at their disposal, in addition to Individual Protective Equipment (PPE) adapted to the existing risks, other complementary equipment that, without having the status of PPE, complement the role played by them. This supply dossier follows the line taken in previous years and responds to the recommendations of the Committee to Combat Forest Fires (CLIFF).
