Description

Die Römischen Bäder im Gartenensemble von Charlottenhof im Park Sanssouci wurden 1829 - 1841 nach Ideen von Kronprinz Friedrich Wilhelm IV. durch die Baumeister Karl Friedrich Schinkel und Ludwig Persius errichtet. Das Ensemble setzt sich aus mehreren Gebäuden, sowie intimen Außenräumen zusammen, die durch Pergolen untereinander verbunden sind und sich um 3 Gartenhöfe gruppieren. Die Anlage wurde in mehreren Bauabschnitten errichtet. Sie besteht aus Gärtnerhaus (1 050 m2 BGF), Gehilfenhaus (243 m2 BGF), Therme (786 m2) und Pavillon (82 m2 BGF). Gebäude und Garten sind von 2 Seiten von Wasser umgeben. Die Anlage zitiert mit ihrer Formensprache die Antike Italiens und Griechenlands und idealisiert einen idyllischen ländlichen Aufenthaltsort. Gebäude und Garten sind von 2 Seiten von Wasser umgeben: Dem Maschinenteich im Süden und dem Schafsgraben im Osten. Die Römischen Bäder stehen unter Denkmalschutz und gehören seit 1990 zum UNESCO-Welterbe „Schlösser und Parks von Potsdam und Berlin“.
