Application Nereda ® and Ephyra ® technology
HHR has the ambition to achieve a “cleansing of the future” with HWP over time. This means a circular purification process, involving the recovery of raw materials, an emission-free purification process, a high (purified) waste water quality and an energy efficient installation using circular energy sources. To achieve this ambition, the large-scale project HWP has been set up, with HHR supported by engineering firms. The AWZI Haarlem Waarderpolder (HWP) project concerns a complex project aimed at implementing a new waste water treatment. An approach with the two plots (sludge line and waterline) has been chosen by the Hoogheemschap van Rijnland (HHR), divided into sub-projects. This makes implementation more manageable and allows for a step-by-step approach that can better respond to new developments. Royal HaskoningDHV is, for technical reasons, the only operator able to supply Nereda ® and Ephyra ® technology. Those technical reasons suggest that no reasonable alternative is available for Nereda ® and Ephyra ®, so that the assignment for purification and sludge digestion technology can only be carried out by Royal HaskonigDHV. Nereda ® is an innovative and practically proven purification technology developed by Royal HaskoningDHV together with TU Delft and STOWA, among others. For the quality and progress of the design and realisation process, it is necessary to ensure the knowledge and experience of Royal HaskoningDHV in integrating Nereda ® technology into the project. Ephyra ® is an innovative sludge fermentation technology patented by Royal HaskoningDHV that works according to the propstream or multi-stage principle. For this technology too, HHR intends to use Royal HaskoningDHV’s knowledge and skills in the same way throughout the preparatory, design and implementation process. HHR wishes to apply the Verdygo system, as it is modular and therefore flexible. Furthermore, this system makes it possible to easily apply new, innovative techniques. All the previous Verdygo installations have been built with Nereda ® technology, because Nereda ® technology is ideally suited to construct compact and modular. The system comparison performed by HHR shows that there are no reasonable alternatives to Nereda ® and Ephyra ®. In doing so, HHR considers the following: — These are technological solutions patented by Royal HaskoningDHV; — The ability to build compact and modular; — The limited space available on the existing site; — Nereda ® and Ephyra ® technologies, compared to other technologies, are best applicable in a compact space and achieve good results; — It is to be applied in the Verdygo technique; — It is the most sustainable solution, as it consumes little or no energy and has a high abatement efficiency; — The option is open to apply Kaumera ® technology in the future; — The possibility of being circular and recovering raw materials (in the future). The contract awarded to Royal HaskoningDHV will consist of the following tasks: — Consultancy in the construction team on Nereda ® and Ephyra ® technology; — Management associated with Nereda ® and Ephyra ®; — Drawing up the Final Draft and Specifications; — Supply of licences related to Nereda ® and Ephyra ®; Support for the start-up and control of the Nereda ® and Ephyra ® installations; —Royal HaskoningDHV will also be a prescribed subcontractor in the European tender for the final works to support the contractor in the retail engineering, the procurement of the Nereda critical instrumentation and Internet, the launch of the Nereda ® and Ephyra ® installation and other support, as well as the supply of the Nereda ® and Ephyra ® process controller. Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in all technical investigations from the outset and is aware of the various interfaces.
