The University of Hamburg (‘UHH’), as a university of excellence with more than 43,000 students and approximately 6,000 staff, is one of the most research-intensive universities in Germany and, at the same time, one of the largest educational institutions in northern Germany. With its flagship university concept in the Hamburg metropolitan region, it maintains innovative and cooperative links with scientific and non-scientific partners. It produces for the location – but also nationally and internationally – the future-oriented social goods education, knowledge and exchange of knowledge under the guiding goal of sustainability. The Regional Data Center of the University of Hamburg (hereinafter RRZ) is the central IT provider of the University of Hamburg. It centrally offers a wide range of services, such as e-mail, WWW, file and print services, eLearning and administration applications. To store data of the S3 object storage UHH-S3 operated at three locations in Hamburg. In addition, there is a smaller disaster recovery system at a fourth location. The technical basis of the service is the Cloudian HyperStore product. These systems procured in 2018 need a tech refresh. The systems are located in 4 server rooms in the Hamburg districts of Rotherbaum, Bahrenfeld and Neustadt.
