Germany-Bonn: Bridge renewal construction work
The construction measure ‘Semi-side dismantling of the Viktoria Bridge (East side)’ is a preliminary measure for the planned construction project ‘Renewal of the Viktoria Bridge’. This pre-measure will be separated from the main measure in order to be able to benefit from the DB lockdowns approved on a mandatory basis for 2016 for the measure. The Viktoria Bridge is the transfer of the federal road B 56 via the Cologne-Koblenz Rhine section, as well as the Stadtbahnrampe and Thomastrasse. The bridge overlay, approx. 100 m long and 20 m wide, consists of a 3-field support grating system. The bridge built in 1949 (steel overlay with counters and bridge ramps) is in need of renovation and is not sufficiently sustainable for today’s loads from traffic. As a result, since May 2010, the bridge has been closed to vehicles of more than 16 tonnes. As part of the renewal, the existing bridge overlay will be replaced by a broadened joint steel bridge structure.
