Description

The project will improve accessibility and road safety for approximately 25,000 daily cyclists and approximately 11,000 pedestrians by expanding cycle paths and sidewalks and directing swinging vehicles to the light-controlled intersections in separate swing lanes. To accommodate the extensions, the road area is reduced to one lane in each direction by closing the bus lanes. At the same time, Torvegade is restored throughout its width. In accordance with the recommendations in Bicycle Focus 2024, the bike paths will be extended to a width of 3.5 metres, except at Christianshavns Torv, where the width will be 2.9 metres. The sidewalks expand to widths of up to five meters. This improves the conditions for pedestrians in the street, who in the event of congestion on the pavement no longer have to step out on the bike path, which also benefits the safety of cyclists. At the same time, it supports Torvegade's expression as a street. On the stretch between Stadsgraven, a wide green central terrace with 19 new trees is expected to be established. As a consequence of the redevelopment of Torvegade, there will also be several adjustments to the traffic flows in the side streets. This means changing alignments, abolishing some alignments and establishing a new road closure. In addition, 26 car parking spaces will be moved, including new pavement extensions, and 109 new bicycle parking spaces will be established. The contractor must participate in project optimisation with TMF and TMF’s adviser with a view to optimising the construction schedule, cf. the Cooperation Agreement on project optimisation. During the construction period, the contractor will coordinate with EDF, which will be responsible for the lighting part of the project, and HOFOR, which will reline a gas pipeline during the construction period. The project is offered as a limited EU tender. A pre-qualification will be held, after which 5 tenderers will be selected to submit a tender.
