D-Berlin: graphic design services
The Berlin Festivals have been holding festivals in all sectors of art for sixty years, currently under the MaerzMusik label, theatre meeting, music festival berlin, play time’europa, JazzFest Berlin, Berlin lessons, youth competitions and the Berlin International Literature Festival associated with the festivals. This cross-cutting, international and contemporary character of the festivals is unique in Europe. Since 2001, the Berlin Festivals also have their own playground with the Berlin Festival House (formerly theatre of the Freien Volksbühne). In addition, the Martin Gropius building is an exhibition house that is successfully anchored in the international art industry.
In the graphical appearance, the festivals are currently very prominent as individual brands. The organiser of Berlin Festivals and the programmatic links between the festivals are only rudimentary.
In January 2012, a change of Director-General will take place at the Berlin Festivals. In this context, the image (logo/word mark, printed products, equipment, website, etc.) of the Berlin Festival will be revised. This concerns both the overarching corporate design of the Berlin Festival and the graphic design for individual festivals in print and online. The aim of the planned repositioning is to focus on the Berlin Festivals and their presentation in the appearance of its individual festivals, series and exhibitions. At the same time, the focus should be placed on the Berlin Festival House as a festival centre.
In 2012, the festivals will still take place in the traditional way, with major programmatic restructuring planned from 2013. Nevertheless, the shift in perception towards the Berlin Festival as a global organiser and universal festival should be reflected in the graphic image already in 2012.
