Germany-Wolfenbüttel: Photocopying and offset printing equipment
The Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences intends to provide multifunctional systems (copiers, printers, scanners) to an external service provider for all sites of the university with effect from 1 February 2016. The multifunctional systems are integrated into the university data network and are usable from any workstation.
The institutions of the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences are spread over the cities of Salzgitter-Calbecht, Suderburg, Wolfenbüttel and Wolfsburg. All sites are interconnected with 155 Mbit/s or 1 Gbps and the central data centre at the Wolfenbüttel site connects to the science network/internet with 1 Gbps.
The Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences uses a smart card (Ostfalia Card) as a student card and also for non-cash payment. Intercard’s solution (www.intercard.org) is used for this purpose. The Ostfalia Card is also intended for non-cash payment in the multifunctional systems (copiers, printers).
The multifunctional systems are used by students and higher education staff on a follow-up basis. This means that the Ostfalia Card is used to authenticate the multifunctional systems to select the print order sent to the print server, to start the printout and to charge the cost of the printout. Different procedures are used for billing:
— Students need to upgrade the money chip on the Ostfalia Card. The valorisation facilities available at all sites are used for this purpose.
— Printing services used by staff are invoiced internally according to consumption.
The multifunctional systems shall have an interface with the network management (SNMP) to monitor the functioning of the equipment and the supply of consumables (toner, paper). The service provider has direct access to the university network via a VPN and only to the multifunctional systems for its own diagnostic purposes and to retrieve the counters.
The integration of the multifunctional systems into the IT infrastructure, as well as the adaptation of the infrastructure for the Ostfalia Card, must be coordinated and planned directly with the university’s data centre.
The service provided by the supplier includes the installation/position of the equipment, maintenance, depreciation of the equipment, the supply of toners and a ‘next business day service’.
