The National Institute for Research and Development in Biological Sciences Bucharest (INCDSB) coordinates at national level the DANUBIUS-RO project that finances the construction and operationalization of the Romanian components of the pan-European DANUBIUS-RI infrastructure: Danube Delta Hub and Supersite. DANUBIUS-RO is a complex network of laboratories, field stations and observation points for monitoring the marine, coastal and river environment, focusing on areas of strategic interest such as the Danube Delta, the Black Sea coast and the lower sector of the Danube. The continuous development of the research infrastructure through the applied research projects carried out by INCDSB and its partners in the Danube Delta Biosphere Area – including within the national and European programmes dedicated to monitoring natural risks, environmental protection and climate change adaptation – requires special attention to the sustainability and resilience of the Murighiol Hub. It must support increasing flows of scientific data, images and complex measurements coming from the field, in order to transmit them to the processing and analysis centers in Murighiol, Tulcea, Galati, Constanta and Bucharest. In the context of expanding the network of observation points and increasing the amount of information generated by monitoring and research equipment, it has become necessary to upgrade the infrastructure for integrated processing of the collected data. Therefore, it is necessary to procure Metaverse Platform Development services and to implement a Digital Twin management system for the Hub of the DANUBIUS-RI infrastructure, allowing the unitary integration of the data collected within the Hub laboratories and the activities related to the Danube Delta Supersite for monitoring the marine and river environment, geodynamic risks and coastal erosion processes. This infrastructure will contribute to improving analysis, early warning and decision support capabilities, strengthening the role of the INCDSB and institutional partners in the sustainable management of resources and in the efficient organisation of research ecosystems of national and European importance.
