Description

As part of Network Rail's Level Crossing Safety Strategy there is a need to develop a cost effective automatic warning system to advise level crossing users of an approaching train at passive level crossings. It recognises that the current warning systems that have been implemented at sighting deficient crossings have limitations and that there is a need for a cost effective system that has the required level of reliability to allow the removal of whistle boards. (Whistle Boards are railway signs that inform the train driver that they need to sound the train horn).
Network Rail have developed an outline product specification which sets out the desired requirements of such a system.
