Description

The EC135 ACT/FHS helicopter is a single piece of research helicopter equipped with a dedicated electronic and safe base flight control as ‘fly-by-light/wire’ control technology with redundant control channels. The helicopter was developed in a joint collaboration between AHD, Liebherr and DLR and is now operating as a research platform. Flight in experimental mode showed some time ago that a specific type of faulty control signal was not detected by the dedicated digital monitors of the primary control computers, which then led to an unintended switch to the emergency mechanical operation of the helicopter. The analysis of this error case showed that the already existing digital monitor functions of the primary control computers need to be expanded. This can and can only be done by the manufacturer itself (Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH) for reasons of air law.
