Description

The presence on French metropolitan territory of the three major predators, the bear, the lynx and the wolf, is causing damage to domestic herds. The ministry in charge of the environment compensates farmers who suffer these attacks. A web application called Géopred succeeds the Géoprédateur application. It has been deployed since February 2023 to: - carry out damage reports (by the OFB, national and regional parks and nature reserves), - investigate (by the Departmental Directorates of Territories and the Sea on behalf of the Departmental Prefects) claims for compensation based on the reports, - put into payment (by the Regional Directorate PACA of the Agency for Services and Payment - ASP) files for compensation for damage caused by the wolf uniformly throughout the territory. Decree No 2019-722 of 9 July 2019 on compensation for damage caused to domestic herds by the wolf, bear and lynx and the Order of 9 July 2019 adopted for the application of Decree No 2019-722 of 9 July 2019 on compensation for damage caused to domestic herds by the wolf, bear and lynx harmonise the procedures for compensation for damage caused by the wolf, bear and lynx. Thus, Géopred is the tool dedicated to investigating the files related to the three major predators. This application also allows users to perform queries to perform balances and syntheses of the data entered. DREAL AuRA is the administrator and prime contractor of its development. The current operation of the tool, and regulatory developments relating to compensation for damage caused by large predators on domestic herds, require continuous corrective and evolutionary maintenance, according to new technical or regulatory needs emerging.
