Construction of a circus arts museum and work, dissemination and creative spaces for the PALC Text automatically translated in your browsing language Automatically translated
The purpose of this project management mission is to build the circus arts museum and the PALC's work, dissemination and creation spaces on the Chanzy site, a former military barracks under redevelopment. Produced in consultation with representatives of the network of museums and the PALC, as well as institutional partners, the pre-program includes the following project: the reconstruction of one of the buildings of the Place d'Armes, on an enlarged right-of-way, the new volume allowing the creation of a large-scale equipment capable of hosting the PALC's creation and dissemination spaces and offering enough space to establish a circus museum with a national or even international influence as well as the reception spaces, techniques and offices necessary for both equipment. The size of this new building is conditioned by a layout established in compliance with the recommendations of the architect of the buildings of France. The implementation of the functions required for the museum and the PALC requires the use of a basement, a ground floor and 3 levels for a floor area of approximately 5,950 m2. The objective of the project is the creation of a complete Circassian centre by deploying a single project, promoting meetings between artists, inhabitants and a national or international audience: by bringing together circus practice and contemporary creation, its dissemination, with the enhancement of circus-related collections, and the transmission of a circus history in the broadest sense. The museographic component will present, on approximately 1,800 m2 of floor space, the works already preserved in Châlons-en-Champagne as well as those anticipated to be deposited by partner national museums. They will be organized according to a delinearized path. The latter will be structured around the following four key concepts: 1. Space-places of circus-roaming 2. Acrobatics-agreements-apparatus-accessories-propulsion 3. Manipulation-illusion 4. Dramaturgy-dance-music-narration. The spaces dedicated to the museum will also offer future visitors a temporary exhibition space of approximately 350 m2 of floor space.
