Sweden-Umeå: Microscopes
The Umeå node of the National Microscopy Infrastructure (NMI) intends to purchase a cryo-fluorescence microscope for fluorescence imaging at liquid nitrogen temperatures. This will be the first cryo-fluorescence microscope in Sweden. The principle of this new microscopy method is to allow localization of fluorophore-labelled features in vitrified samples, for subsequent targeted high-resolution studies by cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography. The purpose of this instrument is to tie together fluorescence imaging and cryo-electron microscopy to allow for cryo-CLEM (Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy).
