Description

With the realisation of the IKAREUM – Lilienthal Flight Museum, the Hanseatic city of Anklam is positioning itself as a forward-looking, open, modern and consciously acting, sustainable urban society. For this future orientation, historical consciousness is of immense importance: Anklam is the birthplace of the Lilienthal brothers and thus the starting point of a history of global importance. At the end of the 19th century, Otto Lilienthal made a breakthrough in the realisation of human flight, paving the way for the construction of the first aircraft and for global air traffic right through to space travel. Like few other historical personalities, events and topics, the Lilienthals and flying offer the opportunity to tell great future-oriented questions of humanity attractively: Technical dream and trauma; Nature, technology and bionics; War as the Father of all things; entrepreneurs and the welfare state; tradition and reform in society; Science and Sociology. The IKAREUM – Lilienthal Flight Museum will be opened in the newly renovated Nikolaikirche Anklam.
