The Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPG) is a non-profit research organization funded mainly by public funds. It currently maintains and operates 84 institutes and other research institutions of different sizes, structures and tasks throughout Germany, which are mainly dedicated to basic research in the natural sciences and humanities.
