HAW Consulting Services RealBat
The subject of the procedure carried out is research and development services in the joint project RealBat (‘More efficient operation of wind turbines through real-time protection for bats’). The aim of the project is to further develop the largely flat-rate shutdowns of wind turbines previously used to protect bats into an adaptive shutdown algorithm that only switches off the turbines if there is a real risk of impact. In contrast to the previous estimation of bat activity based solely on meteorological and phenological parameters, the acoustically recorded bat activity in real time is used as an additional parameter. In this way, the energy yield of the plants can be increased with at least equivalent bat protection. The services to be awarded mainly include the conception for the recording of bats and evaluation of the acoustic and partly combined with the optical data as well as the method development of the real-time shutdown. The core of the performance is the integration of real-time shutdown as an additional parameter in the ProBat software established in planning practice and the underlying statistical models developed in the RE-NEBAT projects as well as the optimization of the overall model of bat protection and energy yield. The project started in June 2026. The duration of the project is three years.
