Selection process and recruitment of the Executive Director of the Tana High-level Forum
The Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa (Tana Forum) is Africa"s foremost peace and security platform established in April 2012 as an initiative of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (AAU) and prominent African figures, such as the late Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi. It was created as a response to the AU Summit Tripoli Declaration of August 2009, which recognized peace and security as a shared "intellectual challenge" and called for "African-led solutions" to security challenges. The Forum aims to facilitate frank discussions among concerned decision-makers, peace and security stakeholders, and their wider communities about the African continent"s security issues and challenges. The structure of the Tana Forum comprises of the Tana Board, Technical committee, and the Secretariat. The Tana Board comprises of eminent African personalities who provide strategic leadership, guidance, and oversight of the Forum. The Technical committee brings together leading professional experts who support the Secretariat in the thematic orientation and design of the annual conferences. IPSS serves as the Secretariat of the Tana Forum and coordinates the rigorous and complex preparation for the delivery of the Forum including thematic content development, logistics, security as well as strategic communication and liaison within and outside Ethiopia. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been a strong supporter of the Tana High-Level Forum since its inception. The project "Support to the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa" is implemented by the GIZ African Union Office as part of the German Federal Republic"s engagement in the area of crisis prevention and peace mediation in Africa. In this context German Development Cooperation supports the further improvement of conditions for central actors of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) as well as outstanding state, economic and social representatives to use the Tana Forum to set foreign and security policy impulses for the region. In order to achieve these objectives in coordination with other components, the project aims at strengthening the organisational and financial sustainability of the Tana Forum and its long-term institutionalisation by the recruitment of an Executive Director of the Tana Forum in close coordination with the Tana Board and Tana Secretariat.
