Description

Ireland is obliged to classify the most suitable territories in number and size as special protection areas for the conservation of regularly occurring migratory birds and those listed on Annex I to Directive 2009/147/EC. To date, terrestrial, freshwater and intertidal habitats constitute the majority of the habitats within Ireland’s SPA Network. Focus has now shifted to the marine environment to assess and identify further marine areas to go forward for classification as SPAs. In recent years two sites, North-west Irish Sea cSPA and Seas off Wexford cSPA, have been notified. The designation of further marine SPAs involves several steps including the compilation of various evidence bases, the production of draft maps and other relevant documentation including EU Natura 2000 Standard Data Forms and site specific conservation objectives. NPWS are seeking one suitably qualified and experienced candidate for 220 days for service between March, 2025 and February, 2026. The work is to be undertaken at the tenderer’s premises but regular meetings at NPWS HQ at 90 North King Street, Dublin 7 may be required throughout the tenure of the contract. Tenderers should note that any references to managing resources by the contracting authority refers to the day to day management of the Services being provided by the resource(s) and overseeing how the Services are being carried out. It does NOT relate to other resource management functions such as, holidays, entitlements, payment of salary etc. which will always be a matter for the service provider.
