Description

The programme for terrestrial nature monitoring (TOV) is a research and monitoring programme that generates unique monitoring data for long time series. It has been in operation since 1990 and comprises integrated nature monitoring with an emphasis on normal types of nature in boreal birch woods, boreal spruce woods and alpine areas. The programme was started to improve knowledge of the effects of pollution, nitrogen fertilisation and environmental toxins in terrestrial eco-systems. The aim was to highlight whether pollution affected plants and animals on a population and social level in normal Norwegian nature. Now more focus is put on climate changes as an important influence factor. The programme also includes area representative monitoring of bird stock in different areas nationwide. The programme's fixed field stations include studies of soil, field vegetation, epiphytes on trees, stock studies of birds and mammals, and surveys of environmental toxins in selected organisms/food chains.
