The Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft für den Kreis Viersen mbH (hereinafter WFG or awarding authority) has the task of developing the economic area of Kreis Viersen and making it fit for the future. The WFG is currently developing sub-areas for the Elmpt industrial park. For many years, the site of the future commercial and industrial park in Elmpt was used for military purposes. After the British forces announced the abandonment of the site - they left Elmpt in 2015 - plans for a follow-up use of the approximately 880-hectare site began early.
