Finland-Kuopio: Analysis apparatus
The subject of the contract is the Fluidigm C1 microfluidics unit of the A.I. Virtane Institute (Kuopio) of the University of Eastern Finland. The device is intended for the isolation and pre-treatment of nucleic acids (mRNA, Mirna, DNA) from individual cells for further analysis by either quantitative polymerase chain reaction and/or whole-genome/transgonal sequencing by Next Generation Sequencing.
The excellentness of the device in the enclosed space lies in the automated processing of very small volumes (nanoltra). The sealed structure avoids contamination and small volumes reduce losses (attribution to walls), increase the effectiveness of reactions (total RNA, DNA, Mirna concentrations higher than normal microlitre) and therefore the reagent costs are only limited to a fraction (up to less than 1 %) compared to normal test-tube work.
The Fluidigm C1 device is capable of processing 96 single cells simultaneously within approximately 8 hours. The procurement is carried out by direct award without a call for tenders, as it is a single automated device.
