Description

As BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme, we have been 100% owned by the State of Berlin since 2 May 2024. We supply around 700,000 apartments and around 8,000 other buildings in the capital with district heating reliably and comfortably. In addition, we also offer locally generated district cooling as well as individual, decentralized energy solutions. The ‘Reuter Solid Fuel CHP’ project includes the planning and construction of a plant for the energetic use of waste wood and biomass at the Reuter West site. The aim is to provide district heating and electricity in the context of combined heat and power (CHP). The plant is designed for a maximum combustion heat output of 110 MW. In the bypass operation of the steam turbine, a district heating capacity of up to 90 MW is provided. In addition, a flue gas condensation system and a heat pump are part of the system concept in order to increase energy efficiency. The electrical output of the plant depends on the final process design and district heating output and is currently forecast at around 20 MW. The system is designed for the use of different types of biomass in order to enable a flexible and needs-based driving style. The main fuels are waste wood and natural biomass, in particular landscape care material, agricultural wood and yields from short rotation plantations. In addition to the actual CHP plant, the scope of the project also includes retrofit and replacement measures for existing infrastructure facilities, in particular the ship unloader and the raw water pump house. In addition, the project includes the planning and construction of a central water treatment plant, including district heating water treatment and partial flow desalination. The total investment is currently expected to be around EUR 400 million (gross).
