Description

The Saarland Cultural Property Foundation is planning to expand the modern gallery in Saarbrücken. To this end, a fourth exhibition pavillon is planned to be grown. The existing building is located on the ground floor and 1. Basement connected to new construction. The building will receive a ventilated glass façade (subject of the contract) in sub-areas.
Site location.
Federal Republic of Germany
Saarland.
Bismarckstraße 11-19.
66111 Saarbrücken.
The site is located directly on the Bismarckstrasse and can be supplied from this side.
The Saarland Cultural Property Foundation intends to expand the modern gallery of the Saarland Museum in Saarbrücken by building a new ‘Galerie des present’ (GdG) – and to redesign the museum landscape. The modern gallery comprises 5 existing buildings and is located directly on the Saar. With the east side, the new construction joins the stock. The planned construction of a new ‘Gallery of the Present’ is the Cuban wing of a quadrant with a square floor. The building’s body consists of 4 above ground floors with exhibition rooms and gastronomy and 2 basement levels with depots, stores and sanitary facilities. The exhibition rooms, as well as the painting depot and restoration, are two-storey. The floor plan dimensions are approximately 35.6 x 35.6 m. The building extends approximately 14.5 m above the site. On the northern side there is a two-storey light shaft over a width of approximately 11 m.
The light shaft is monolithically connected to the structure. The modern gallery will be reconstructed in future by means of the new building, providing access to the visitors’ stand on the ground floor and on the 1st basement for internal processes. As the building is located in the floodplain of the Saar, requirements for the sealing of structures and buoyancy protection are required. The level of protection is set for a two-yearly flood event HQ200.
