Broadcasting Centre 1 in Mainz of the ZDF provides the essential infrastructure necessary for the production and broadcasting of the various channels. The buildings necessary for this purpose are spread over a total surface area of approximately 0.5 km². The fire extinguishing water is supplied centrally from the workshop building via storage tanks using well water. The central extinguishing water pipe fed there is fed into the respective building centres via an accessible supply duct (approx. 1 000 m) and exits from the supply duct at several points and supplies the meshed earthed water network (approx. 3 500 m) with the necessary external hydrants. Some of these lines are more than 30 years old and have been damaged in recent years. In order to ensure the supply of fire extinguishing water and to specify the effort, a plan for replacing/replacing the complete pipe with all shut-off valves and hydrants must be installed in power phases 1-3. The works will affect both green areas with tree stands and paved and asphalted areas. These must also be planned with the entire earthworks. Traffic safety obligations must also be taken into account. The construction process must take into account the production requirements of the ZDF.
In the same project, the parallel central sprinkler line will be replaced up to the respective transfer centres in each building.
Planning work is to start immediately and be completed with performance phase 3 in 2015.
The implementation of the action should start in the following year, subject to the agreement of the ZDF bodies, with a maximum duration of 3 years.
