A confocal scanning microscope
EPFL intends to purchase a confocal scanning microscope for its Living Pattern Laboratory (LPL) of the Faculty of Basic Sciences (SB). The equipment is used for cutting-edge research in biophysics. With regard to the needs of the EPFL and the specific scientific objectives of its LPL laboratory, the focus will be on the following areas of research: Imaging of fixed immunofluorescence samples of “giant” cells (~200um), with the specific aim of determining the structure of the patterns of the cytoskeleton and the cilia arrangement throughout the cell. Imaging of expansion microscopy samples (~800 um), with the aim of characterising the arrangement of basal bodies in whole cells. Live imaging of floating organisms and fluorescent beads to track the currents they produce. The currents are carried out at a speed of 400 at/s.
38000000 - Laboratory, optical and precision equipments (excl. glasses)
