Description

WFD 8 is a realisation agreement for the Water Framework Directive, with the aim of improving the ecological quality of the river system. Studies have shown that the current river system of the Meuse with the weirs and fish steps functions suboptimally for migratory fish. With the realization of KRW 8, the possibility for fish to pass the weirs in the Meuse is improved and fish collection is stimulated. The contractor must mainly perform the following activities: • Construction of a new fish ladder near the Lith weir/lock complex; • Optimization 7 fish steps at the weirs in the Meuse; • Design and execution work to make the above realization possible. All work according to the agreement must be completed and carried out on the basis of a project management system by December 2027 at the latest.
