Description

The aim of the performance is the detection of the noble cancer (Astacus astacus) and the invasive cancers comb cancer (Orconectes limosus), marble cancer (Procambarus fallax) and signal cancer (Pacifastacus leniusculus) taking into account and testing of historical evidence as well as the assessment of the conservation status of the noble cancer. For this purpose, up-to-date examinations and surveys of the cancer species as well as the habitat and impairment parameters required for the assessment must be carried out in the preselected waters in accordance with a standardised method. 2.1 General methodology, examination room and time frame The examination room for the detection of cancers comprises the waters or sections of waters listed in Annex 1.2, Table 1. Figure 1 in Annex 1.1 shows the situation in the country. As far as possible, it should not deviate from the defined study areas. Appropriate off-site sites shall be determined by the AN in the designated areas of investigation. For each study area (Table 1), a specific study site with 10 cancer baskets must be set up (see point 2.2.1). The methodological requirements of the TROSCHEL 2006 assessment scheme (Annex 1.3) apply to the establishment of the sampling sites for noble cancer, the collection of herd, habitat and impairment parameters for noble cancer and the evaluation. The information required in this scheme shall be recorded in the form of an FFH field report in the field (Annex 1.4; see also requirements of section 2.2.2). 2.2 Recording work including preparatory work 2.2.1 Selection of the specific examination area The service description is predominantly functional. The Contractor shall independently obtain the official permits required for registration as well as the agreement of the respective water owners and shall document this to the Client. In the study areas, the AN shall establish specific study sites or test tracks to be based on previous evidence and habitat structures, without necessarily taking FFH site boundaries into account. A test track or area for the examination of the noble crayfish should, if possible in the terrain, have a length between 100 m and 500 m. Cancer detection is carried out at the selected sample sites using bait-loaded cancer baskets. Liver (pig or beef) or commercial boilies (fishing accessories) should be used as bait. The baited cancer baskets are placed primarily in flow-calmed areas of the waters, such as deep colks. For additional stabilisation, the baskets are protected from drifting with linen. Care must be taken to ensure that the cancer basket entrances are underwater and in contact with the subsurface, so that the crabs can reach the interior of the pots unhindered. Ten numbered cancer baskets (1-10) are to be used per site/test track, which are checked approximately every two days over a period of about 1 week and re-baited at the same time (a total of three inspections per basket in the water/water section). Disinfection of the cancer baskets is urgently required before changing the sample sites in order to prevent possible pathogens (pest) (commercial disinfection spray with no effect against fungi or the like). The time spent on the recording must be documented in each case in order to be able to assess the methodological comparability of investigations. Depending on the weather conditions, the surveys are to be carried out for the most suitable months for noble cancer, i.e. between the beginning of May and the end of October. All recording work must be completed in 2026.
