Description

The DolWin alpha offshore platform consists of a topside and a jacket and is deep-floated with 6 open steel tubing poles. The jacket serves to stiffen the founding poles horizontally and is welded to them on the top. There is an installation-related split between the poles and the jacket legs. Mudmats (load distribution panels) are located on the bottom of the jacket, which were intended to ensure stability during installation. A bathymetric study showed maximum colk depths around the poles of ~2 m under sea floor. The mudmates located in the corner areas are partly fully rinsed.
The jacket therefore sweeps and touches the poles and can change frequency abruptly upon contact. This non-planning design behaviour leads to unfavourable resonance.
