Purchase of Mass Spectrometer
It is our impression that the Orbitrap Exploris 120 HRAM LC/IC-MS system from Thermo Scientific will fulfil the requirements from DTU Sustain and its broader user base as described above. No other supplier can deliver similar system capable of solving the listed challenges. The combined system must have; • A high-pressure tolerant ion chromatograph system (<35 MPa). • A reagent-free ion chromatograph system to avoid chemical artifacts in the analysis. • An ion chromatography system with a regenerative chemical suppressor. • A liquid chromatography system with split-loop sampler for seamlessly micro (10 nL) and high (100 µL) sample volume injection. • The injection principle of the autosampler must be in-line split-loop (also called flow through needle) for high reproducibility injections with no sample loss. • A liquid chromatography system capable of have sample temperature control within 4-40 oC and holding at least 216 sample vials at the same time. • The liquid chromatograph sampler must support a sample capacity of four sample racks and well plates (96 and 384, deep and shallow) without the need for external devices such as plate feeder. • The user interface must provide guided workflow exchange and maintenance procedures. After extensive market research of commercially available systems and suppliers, DTU Sustain has concluded that the Orbitrap Exploris 120 HRAM LC/IC-MS system from Thermo Scientific is the only instrument meeting the high technical requirements needed for DTU Sustain to perform the variety of state-of-the-art experimental environmental research.
