Description

The University of Bielefeld was built as a result of an architectural competition between 1972 and 1976. Functional and structural defects and changed work in scientific and student operations require a thorough modernisation of the primary university building (UHG), with the exception of the ‘raw building tunnel’. The design task is to modernise the main university building in six sections under parallel operation. The 1st Construction section comprises the main entrance area with adjacent components K, R, S, J and shares of A and B. For this 1. One concrete room programme is available; an area requirement has been determined for the further construction stages. According to the current planning stage, the entire construction period runs until 2025. Construction is planned to start in 2014, the planned completion of the 1st. The construction phase is in 2016. In addition to the development of an overall idea for the main building, the object planning task focuses on the design development for the first phase of construction. This includes the redesign of the main entrance, the design of a new component and the modernisation of the existing components K, R, S J and partial components A and B. The first phase will provide essential guidance for the whole project. The total useful floor area of the main university building is approximately 145 000 m². The first phase has a useful floor area of approximately 30 000 m². For the first phase, a cost volume for the 300+ 400 cost groups of DIN 276 is estimated at approximately EUR 83000000 (gross).
