Eurograduate pilot survey
Country report Austria
Publication metadata
Much is expected from higher education in regard to addressing the challenges that policy makers in the countries of the European Higher Education Area face. Higher education institutions should equip their graduates with the skills and competencies necessary for the successful entry into a volatile labour market, and more importantly, maintain their employability throughout their working lives.
Higher education graduates are looked on to give a positive impulse to the European economic and social development in terms of the creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship that are critical to economic growth, to boosting the innovative capacities in the society, and to keeping pace with the evolving knowledge and technological landscape. Higher education should also promote engaged citizenship and democratic values, such as tolerance, openness and critical thinking, and thus contribute to higher levels of social cohesion and trust. There is an increased demand for more transparency in higher education institutions, in order to enhance young people’s ability to make effective educational choices, and to promote international mobility. Such mobility is regarded as a powerful means to acquire intercultural understanding, as well as to improve competencies and expand career options for graduates, and to achieve a better allocation of highly skilled labour across the EU. In order to reach these policy goals, it is crucial to have access to high quality data that is comparable across European countries.
