START support for a just transition in County Offaly

As regards Ireland, START originally provided support to the Midlands Regional Transition Team in 2020 to assist in a range of policy and practice areas, including transition planning, community engagement, project identification, and skills and labour market analysis. This final report sets out the technical assistance provided by the START team to County Offaly during 2023. The support related to the creation of a new County level partnership of key local actors, including the new Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), to enable a Just Transition. The report is intended to act as a reference and resource for the partners going forward. It can also inform the process of a fair and equitable transition in the wider Midlands region. The topic of higher education and partnership working in the context of Just Transition is one that is of growing interest to the European Commission and the START team look forward to hearing how the new partnership develops.
