Dai prati fioriti delle Alpi alle rive dell'Atlantico battute dal vento, dalle grandi pianure dell'Ungheria alle lussureggianti foreste di faggi dell'Europa centrale, dalle acque cristalline del Mediterraneo alle solitarie torbiere della Lapponia, la diversità sul continente europeo è straordinariamente ricca. La rete Natura 2000 è stata concepita per proteggere questo patrimonio inestimabile per
le generazioni future. Essa permette ai 27 Stati membri dell'Unione europea di collaborare, senza tener conto dei confini nazionali, per tutelare i principali habitat e specie del territorio europeo. La rete comprende già più di 25 000 siti. Questo volume racconta la storia di questa straordinaria iniziativa e accompagna il lettore in un viaggio attraverso alcuni dei più bei siti di Natura 2000 in Europa.
