This report has been developed as part of the support provided to the Świdnica Energy Cluster through the Coal Regions in Transition Initiative’s technical assistance facility (START). The report provides an overview and analysis of several case studies on the development and implementation of energy communities. It includes Polish examples, as they are comparable in terms of legal and policy framework, alongside cases from other EU member states that despite their different legal environments may nevertheless serve as inspiration for the Świdnica Energy Cluster. The report focuses on activities of energy communities that were identified as of particular interest by members of the Świdnica Energy Cluster during a START fact finding visit. Specifically, the report explores education and outreach aspects, as well as on the management of the Cluster, including collaboration between Cluster members, types of business models adopted, financial aspects, and the governance structures.
