In May 2019, Europeans from 28 different countries took part in the biggest democratic exercise in the history of our continent. More than 200 million EU citizens voted to elect 751 Members of the European Parliament. After years of declining voter turnout, the trend was reversed, with over half of all eligible EU citizens casting their ballots. These people recognised that the elections mattered
and that the decisions taken by the European Parliament have a direct effect on their lives. The European Parliament is the only directly elected European institution. We are here as your elected representatives to ensure that the EU reflects your aspirations and responds to your needs. We do this by amending and improving EU legislation that will affect all our lives and by being a forum for debate on the largest issues facing our continent.
