The EU's economy continues its expansion. Real GDP increased by 0.7 % in the EU and by 0.6 % in the euro area in the second quarter of 2017, which is more than in the previous quarter (0.5 % in both the EU and the euro area). Year-on-year growth improved further to 2.4 % in the EU and 2.3 % in the euro area. All Member States report an increasing output. The range of quarterly GDP growth in the
second quarter of 2017 varied from 0.3 % in the UK and Portugal to a solid 2.5 % in the Czech Republic. Year-on-year growth was positive in all Member States, exceeding 5 % in Malta, Romania, Estonia, Ireland and Slovenia.
