The objectives of this study are: to analyse and summarise the Member States’ risk assessments and risk characterisations, and draw conclusions on the severity of the risks presented by the use of cadmium in fertilisers; to develop options for risk management; to assess the effects of the risk management options; to carry out a risk-benefit analysis for each of the options. The study was carried out in three stages: Stage 1: Summary, analysis and comparison of the Member States’ risk assessments and risk characterisations. Stage 2: Development of options for risk management measures. Stage 3: Risk-benefit analysis of all options. This Final report presents the outcome of Stage 2 and 3 of the study and takes into account the comments received by both the Member States and the European Commission. The results of Stage 1 were presented in a report submitted to the European Commission in January 2001.
