The European Asylum Support Office (EASO) practical guide ‘Personal interview’ is intended as a practical checklist and brief guidance to accompany the case officers across the European Union and beyond in their daily work. It was created to support Member States in meeting one of their vital obligations in the Common European Asylum System (CEAS): the obligation to give the applicant a fair and effective opportunity to present the grounds for their application, where the personal interview plays a key role. The guide is designed in accordance with the relevant legal requirements and at the... same time suggests a practical approach, applicable in the daily work of case officers. It meets the demand for the translation of those common standards into a common approach to their implementation. This is the pilot practical guide developed in the EASO Quality Matrix process. It should be seen in conjunction with the practical guides which follow, the next two being on evidence assessment and on identification of persons with special needs.
