Improving accessibility of persons with reduced mobility by improving digital travel information services
A selection of good practices in Europe
Publication metadata
This booklet presents a selection of good practices that have been adopted by digital travel information service (henceforth, DTIS) providers to support accessible travel for those of us, who have difficulties accessing the transport system because of our disabilities or reduced mobility. Thirteen different services are presented that illustrate several key features, which are specifically helpful
to support persons with disabilities and reduced-mobility (PRM) in travel. It is hoped that readers will be inspired to replicate, if not improve upon the features presented here, to serve their own community. To be explicit, there are two levels of accessibility that digital travel information service providers need to account for: 1. Provision of appropriate and sufficient information for the passenger to plan and carry out the journey, and to deal with unexpected disruptions. 2. Provision of the information in the format and via the channel suited to the passenger, especially considering those with visual, hearing, learning and cognitive difficulties. The first level is often the most discussed aspect of the service.
