This independent evaluation assesses the cooperation strategy of the European Union in the policy area of Environment and Climate Change between 2014 and 2020. The evaluation focuses on ten overarching thematic areas: climate change, environmental governance, nature protection, industrial pollution, air quality, water quality, waste management, chemicals, noise, and civil protection. The evaluation reports that, although the scale of the results and the pace of change have not been sufficient to reverse negative trends, the European Union played a major role in strengthening national policies and legal frameworks relating to environment and climate change in the Enlargement and Neighbourhood regions.
