The staff working document provides further details of Commission control activities in the areas of food safety, animal and plant health, animal welfare, organic farming and quality schemes. The outcome of these control activities formed the basis for several conclusions included in the 2014-2016 Commission report to the European Parliament and to the Council. The examples included also show how the Commission’s systematic follow-up based on its control findings continues to prove an effective means of addressing failures in compliance with EU requirements. This is important in conjunction with the Commission’s increased drive for a deeper and fairer internal market and better law-making, both high political priorities for the Commission.
