The development of the entrepreneurial capacity of European citizens and organisations is one of the current key policy objectives for the European Union and Member States. Entrepreneurship education prepares people to be responsible and it helps them to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to achieve the goals they set out for themselves. Evidence shows that people with entrepreneurial education are more employable. As Europe needs more entrepreneurs to create more jobs, it is crucial to support this type of education across countries. Entrepreneurship is one of the eight key competences as defined in the Council Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning. Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport in Europe for the (2014 – 2020) period. Over this period, the programme will provide opportunities for over 4 million of Europeans to study, train, gain experience and volunteer abroad. Thanks to its lifelong learning approach, Erasmus+ brings these opportunities to all – students, learners, staff, trainees, teachers, volunteers and many more. In addition, education, training, youth and sport organisations participating in Erasmus+ engage in a number of development and networking activities. These include the strategic improvement of the professional skills of their staff, organisational capacity building and creating transnational cooperative partnerships with organisations from other countries in order to produce innovative outputs or exchange best practices. Erasmus+ is one of the European Union flagship programmes and has proved to be highly beneficial to the participants, not only in terms of supporting the transition to employment but also by creating a feeling of belonging to the same European community and promoting sharing common values. The Erasmus+ programme contributes to the creation of a European Education Area where learning, studying and undertaking research should not be hampered by borders and where, in addition to one’s mother tongue, speaking two other languages should become the norm. These initiatives reflect the European Commission’s ambition to enable all young people to receive the best education and training, and find jobs across the continent.
